Luckily, there are plenty of good hotel options located within easy walking distance of Disneyland.

The map below shows the location of the best family hotels near Disneyland discussed in this post so you can visualize how close they are to the park entrances. I’ve also included popular transportation access points like the pick-up and drop-off location of the Toy Story Parking Lot Shuttle and the Downtown Disney Monorail Station. These make the journey from some of the further hotels much easier.
Best Family Hotels Near Disneyland: Disneyland’s Early Entry Hotels
The first thing many people wonder when planning a trip to Disneyland is whether or not it’s worth it to stay at a Disneyland Resort Hotel. One of the top perks is that staying at a Disney hotel is the only way to get early entry into the parks. Getting in and riding your favorite rides before anyone else is a great way to start an unforgettable day at Disneyland!
Other not-too-shabby perks include preferred access to some coveted hotel dining reservations and package delivery to your room from select shops at the parks or in Downtown Disney.
Of course, the perks of staying at a Disneyland hotel come with a price. The Disney resort hotels cost more than most of the Good Neighbor Hotel options we share later in this post.
In this section, we share key details about the three Disney Hotels and why they should be included as some of the best family hotels near Disneyland.
Disney’s Grand Californian

- Hotel Category: 4-Star
- Location: On Disneyland Resort Property
- What sets it apart: All the perks of staying at a Disney hotel with its own private entrance to California Adventure.
If you’re up for a splurge, Disney’s Grand Californian is the ultimate way to enjoy fun-filled days at the Disneyland parks.
A major perk of staying at the Grand Californian is that you not only get access to the parks 30 minutes before the regular park opening, but you also have a direct entrance from your hotel into the middle of California Adventure.
I honestly thought staying here wasn’t worth the cost until we walked by the hotel’s entrance near Grizzly Run on the afternoon of our first day in the park. We’d gotten there as early as possible, and the idea of being able to stroll in for a quick mid-day rest made me see staying here in a very different light!
To get to Disneyland, cut through California Adventure with a Park Hopper ticket or walk through Downtown Disney. For a shortcut, hop on the Monorail at the Downtown Disney station and zoom directly into Tomorrowland.
“Excellent hotel! Super location! We’ve stayed at the Grand Californian several times. It’s always a great stay! Love being right there near the parks. It’s so convenient. The food options are also good. Mousekeeping was good and efficient.” – Anonymous, February 2023

On-site restaurants at the Grand Californian include the Storytellers Cafe where you can meet your favorite Disney characters over breakfast and brunch and the Napa Rose Restaurant which hosts the Disney Princess Breakfast Adventures.
So who wouldn’t want to stay here? Aside from the room costs, one common complaint is the flipside of the hotel’s biggest perk: the close proximity to the parks. Because of California Adventure’s long hours, this hotel can be loud and lively well into the night. Those wanting a calm oasis might prefer to stay further out.

A guest favorite is the 4,800 square foot E-Ticket Pool with two winding water slides that feature replicas of the park’s Monorail trains. A mini slide with a splash area keeps the little ones happy, while the Mickey and Minnie whirlpools near the D-Ticket Pool are perfect for tired parents.
Dining options at this hotel include plenty of Disney magic, from the chance to meet favorite Disney friends while dining at Goofy’s Kitchen or enjoying drinks at the Jungle Cruise-inspired Trader Sam’s Tiki Bar at the end of the day.
“Great hotel, not cheap but nice and well-themed. We had a great stay and like it better than the Grand Californian. The only real drawback to this hotel is the walk to the parks, that said, we’ll stay here again. Love the music box/bed lights! The Grand Californian is fancier and closer to the parks but this hotel has the Disney magic.” – Fred, February 2023

“We were able to check in at 11:30 AM and our room had a wonderful view of CA! We could watch the World of Color and fireworks every night! The front desk staff was genuinely kind and caring and made us feel welcome.
We knew the rooms would be a bit dated because of the remodel going on,but that did not matter at all,all 5 of us slept comfortably. There were free hot beverages in the lobby every morning, and you could buy snacks if wanted.
The ease of entering either park was a big selling point. Saved so much time not standing in line to get in. Several days we went in at 7:30AM and rode the rides that we knew would have long lines later in the day.. All in all I am very glad we stayed at Paradise Pier Hotel.” – Jan, February 2023

“We have been coming to Disneyland every year for over a decade. We’ve always stayed on Harbor with our larger family of six, but we outgrew our typical room now that my kids are too big to sleep comfortably in a pullout bed. We decided to give Clementine a chance and we were so pleased! The bi-level loft room was amazing, and the extra space and second bathroom so nice.
The full sized kitchen and fridge allowed us to order groceries for delivery and actually freeze water bottles for our park visit. The morning breakfast (and the staff there) were phenomenal… with a new featured dish every morning of our stay ranging from taco eggs to biscuits and gravy to French toast sticks to pancakes with blueberries. Of course, they always had a breakfast meat, eggs with and without cheese, waffle makers, cereal, and my personal favorite, a huge pot of oatmeal with all the condiments.
The walk was a little longer (about 10 minutes to the Harbor Blvd entrance of Disneyland) but we all voted and the property, room size, and amenities made it worth it! Thanks for a great stay.” – Erin, February 2023

Most of the suites at this hotel offer kitchenettes with refrigerators, microwaves, and kitchenware so you can prepare your own meals too. The average suite sleeps six people with sofa bed and trundle bed options. Two-bedroom suites have a queen in one room, a trundle bed that becomes two twins in the second room, and a separate living room and kitchen.
One thing reviewers would like to improve about the rooms? The bathrooms have a sliding door that doesn’t lock, which has proven less than ideal for some families.
“Easy walk to Disney from the hotel. Very clean and new. Quiet rooms, even near elevator. Valet parking is worth it. Breakfast was similar to Hampton Inn, we are a family of 6 and they have rooms that hold up to 6, a great value, much less expensive than getting two rooms.” – Michael, January 2023

The biggest perk of this hotel is the complimentary direct shuttle services for guests. But, there are plenty of amenities that will keep everyone entertained including an outdoor heated pool and whirlpool, a game room with a video arcade, and billiards. “Once we arrived after a full day at Disney we were exhausted. Check in was fast and they upgraded me to a suite. Our room was full of 🦄. My girls were thrilled. The beds were so comfortable. Room had huge closet and a tent for my girls to play in.
Plenty of plugs. Plenty of light. Great amount of towels. Hidden mini fridge kept our goodies cold. Coffee maker used for hot tea in the mornings. Gift shop had excedrin for my migraine. Milk for my girls and plenty of snack food, sandwiches, fruit, etc.
Game room was fun for my children too. Fish in the pond outside and inside were beautiful. Staff friendly and the shuttle to Disneyland was such fun. View of 30 minute fireworks show from our room was amazing. We did not eat at the restaurant on site. We slept in. Quiet rooms.” – Priscilla, March 2023

Frequently Asked Questions about the Best Family Hotels Near Disneyland
Which hotels get extra magic hours at Disneyland?
The only way to gain early access to one of the Disneyland Parks is to stay at one of the official Disneyland Resort hotels: The Grand Californian, The Disneyland Hotel, and Paradise Pier (soon to be Pixar Place Hotel).
Can you take a shuttle from the Disney Parking Lots even if you don't park there?
Yes, you do not have to park in the Disney lots to use the shuttle services. This is a popular option for guests who are staying at hotels that are a little outside of easy walking distance. Shuttles for the Toy Story Parking Lot run constantly throughout the day and are more frequent in the early morning and near closing hours
What is the ART Shuttle?
In an effort to relieve street congestion, new hotels in the Disneyland area are no longer allowed to operate private shuttles to Anaheim theme parks. The city has created the ART (Anaheim Resort Transit) Shuttle system to help hotel guests conveniently reach their destination.
The ART Shuttle is not free. Adult passes cost $6 for a 1-day pass, $16 for a 3-day pass, and $25 for a 5-day pass. All pricing information for ART is on their website. Shuttle passes can be purchased from most hotel front desks in the Anaheim Resort District.
Two hotels, the Candy Cane Inn and the Anaheim Majestic Garden Hotel, have been permitted to continue their private shuttles to the parks.
Is it cheaper to stay at Disneyland or off site?
Though there are perks to staying at a Disneyland hotel that many families find worthwhile, you are certain to find a more budget-friendly hotel off-site. Generally speaking, you'll get more for your money the farther you are from the main entrances to the parks.
How early should you get to Disneyland?
This is completely a matter of personal preference. However, the later you arrive the more crowded you can expect the parks to be.
On our very first visit with the kids in 2018, we thought we could stroll up and buy tickets mid-morning. It was one of the worst decisions we've ever made, and it took hours just to get into the park! When we visited this fall, we did rope drop both days. Though it was a bit of a struggle getting to the parks so early, we were able to ride some of our favorite rides without a wait. This made the overall start to each day much more enjoyable.
This is where your hotel choice makes a big difference. Choosing a hotel within a close walk to the park makes it easier to get there in the morning and easy to pop back for a rest during the most crowded times in the middle of the day.
Can you bring food into Disneyland?
Yes! You can bring your own food and nonalcoholic drinks into the parks. We did this on our last visit, limiting food purchases to special snacks and one meal per day at the parks. Not only was this a budget helper, but we also liked having healthier options for the kids. Another bonus was knowing that we had food that they wanted. There's nothing worse than throwing away yet another pricey kids' meal.
There is a free picnic area located on the Esplanade near the main entrance to Disneyland. You can keep your food in the large lockers here, and enjoy a calm quiet picnic whenever you're hungry.
Disney does have a few rules about bringing food: glass is not allowed and food should be able to be stored and eaten at room temperature. Food should not require heating, reheating, or refrigerating.
Can you refill water bottles at Disneyland?
Yes! You can refill water bottles at filling stations located throughout Disneyland, California Adventure Park, and Disney parking structures. Many guests who stay at hotels with full kitchens like to freeze water bottles ahead of time to keep cool throughout the day.
